The Mogs arrived at East Horsley on what was a beautiful autumn day.
Knowing that it would be our final game of the season we were all keen to finish well.
The top six of the batting order must be the most alliterative of the season with Furner and Fisher opening followed by Brooker,Bukhari,Briggs and Bhat.
Peter (18) and Paul (10) got off to a flyer plundering 30 runs from the first 5 overs. Unfortunately both fell in the sixth over. Brooker came and went in the time it took yours truly to pay a visit to the little boys room!
Thankfully Bukhari (39) and Briggs (17), (excellent name for a Bollywood cop duo!),steadied the ship for a time and the score moved on to 90-3 before Briggs was out caught.
Murali (39) entered the fray and proceeded to accrue runs with a number of boundaries.Tharp (4) hit a boundary and then top edged the next ball into space, caught eventually by the EH keeper upon re-entering earth's orbit.
Yours truly (7) also hit a boundary and an excellent forward defensive, but as many of you will know I am genetically incapable of playing two defensive shots in a row and succeeded in bottom edging the next ball onto my own stumps.
It was then left to Mankelow and the colonel to get us to a mildly respectable score 173 all out!
Tea was served. An excellent selection of sandwiches including coronation chicken, BLT, and egg & tomato alongside lemon drizzle cake and chocolate fingers.
The Mogs took to the field hoping for some quick wickets, but they were hard to come by with East Horsley only requiring 4 batsmen to chase down the target.
Tharp and Mankelow the only bowlers to take a wicket a piece!
It would be remis of me not to mention the caught behind that apparently wasn't. EH's no.4 bat swearing blind that he had not hit the ball having just smashed it into the colonel's gloves!
Final game over.
The Mogs retired to the bar and imbibed a beverage or two with the opposition before heading home.
Winter well my friends. J.Lewis
