Another belter of a tour and our thanks must go to Charlie & Trigger for all their hard work. In summary:
Saturday - golf for 5 of us (Fisher, Turner, Lee, Hewitt, Parker) which was won by Charlie with Alex a close 2nd. Quick beer afterwards before heading to Evesham Hotel where 3 more tourists (Lewis, Tharp, Smith) met us, before curry, tour hats and lots of beer, Sambuca, G&Ts and a very late night in the hotel bar under the watchful gaze of Swiss Tony.
Sunday/Game Day - the Mogs mustered 10 cricketers after Tharp & Lewis both declared themselves unfit, but Cooper, Bhat & Bukhari all arrived ready to go. We "agreed" to bat first & Ahson & Fish put on 100 for the 1st wicket - we were so confident of a huge total that the rest of the batsmen all ordered beers in the pavilion. First big mistake. They brought on their proper bowling and removed a succession of Mogs batsmen and we lunched at 129-4 with Bukhari, Brown, Turner & Hewitt all back in the hutch. A delightful lunch was provided by our terrific hosts and we were having such a good time that we ordered 4 bottles of red. Next big mistake. Despite bringing on the part time spinners, the Mogs all found ways to get out, nearly all of whom were captured in glorious HD video by Voodoo cameraman Brown. Only Paul "The Godfather" Fisher held firm and great credit must go to his battling 63 which saw the Mogs nearly reach 200. Easily his best knock for the Mogs in my opinion. Our bowlers took the game to Dumbleton with Cooper & Buhkari the pick, but Dumbleton's potty-mouthed Aussie pro Dan scored a coruscating 120 not out, including seven or eight very large 6's. We lost but we were not disgraced.
The evening followed a familiar journey to previous years with beer with the oppo, fines from Judge Hewitt & Justice Parker, food, more beer, silly drinks, Bucket singing, Hewitt behind the bar, communal singing and then "la piece de resistance", the "retirement of afore-mentioned overseas pro, who was good at cricket, but not able to keep up with the Mogs in the beer stakes.
Tremendous fun, we have been invited back, we need to strengthen the side & I would urge any of you to come along, even if its just to watch. It really is a fantastic tour.
