The Mogador Wanderers regained the Matthew Lewis Memorial Shield in front of a good crowd on a warm early Summers day. Bowling first Joseph & Chris Mankelow regularly found themselves looking forlornly at the boundary as our hosts started off at 6 an over, though "Barry" had his revenge in a spell that, like a good claret, improved as it went on. Cooper snared 1 but Merstham were set for a very large total until Andy Tharp brought himself on from the golf course end and Harry Hewitt from the end where the walkers forget that etiquette dictates you don't walk behind the bowlers arm. Both bowlers bowled great spells with Tharp using guile & a little bit of swing and Hewitt the Younger, the old fashioned virtues of line & length. After 40 overs Merstham closed their innings on 192 for 6, a par score. After a good tea, the Mogs set off in pursuit with Furner outscoring Cooper (well for the first three overs) and our 1st wicket realised 50. Alex Hewitt joined Furner at the crease and these 2 put on another 50 until Furns was given out LBW. With 20 overs to go the Mogs needed 90 to win but Tharp & JD Burton were quickly sent back to the hutch and it was left to Murali Bhatt to join Hewitt the Elder at the crease and these two saw the Mogs home with 5 overs to spare and reclaim the silverware. Great thanks must go to our hosts, the BBQ team and Mother Nature who ensured that the heavy rain was relatively brief, somewhere near the tea interval.
