It was a classic Mog victory at Leigh's lovely rural ground on the occasion of William Parker's 50th birthday. Leigh inserted the Mogs in a 40 over game and after Furner's early departure Bukhari & Turner saw the Mogs up to 50 before Freeland replaced Turner and accelerated the score along. Wickets fell regularly with home boy "Cela" picking up 5 and a middle order collapse meant that Cooper & Honeyfield needed to bat together for 10 overs putting on 48 for the 8th wicket, seeing the Mogs reach 179 in the 40th over with the birthday boy registering his 100th not out for the Mogs. Quite remarkable.
After a sensational tea (nice to see pork pie back) the Mogs took the field but our hosts put on 52 for the 1st wicket before Hewitt & Fairclough combined to take out their opener, with Honeyfield & Furner doing the same 1 over later. Leigh kept their foot on the accelerator and with 20 overs to go they needed just 85 with 8 wickets in hand. After drinks Brooker ran out Slade, Bukhari pulled off a remarkable caught & bowled (saving Umpire Lee's life in the process) & Freeland leapt like a salmon to also take a sensational catch. Cooper & Bukhari bowled wonderfully with the Mogs catching equally brilliant as Leigh's middle & lower order folded like origami paper and it was left to Parker to take the winning catch before a giant party of hungry curry eaters descended on our Reigate Curry HQ for Parker-inspired festivities. Top day - huge thanks to Andy Tharp & Charlie Lee for umpiring & scoring all afternoon. Mog Legends the pair of them.
