Mogador Wanderers vs Merstham (27/09/2015)

MWCC Won 34 runs.
Final Scores:
Merstham 218 for 9.
MWCC - 252 for 5

The Mogs finished their season in great style with a fine win played on a glorious Autumn afternoon. Electing to bat first in a 35 over game, we got off to a slow but steady start with Furner, Fairclough & Honeyfield all taking responsibility for seeing the shine off the ball (though Furns took his responsibilities particularly seriously). Merstham bowled well and it was not until Toby Briggs made it to the crease that our run rate increased. Toby batted beautifully, alternating classical drives with agricultural smears - Mog batting in a nutshell! Furns finally departed, JD got in and out and Hewitt joined Briggs for the final 8 overs which realised 108 runs, seeing the Mogs post a pretty challenging total on a good pitch (but a long outfield), with Toby finishing on a magnificent 135 not out, scored off around 75 balls. It really was a tremendous innings.

Pat Lewis rolled back the years, overseeing the sandwiches in a fine tea before the Mogs took to the field. Joseph bowled well, snaring 2 early wickets but Merstham were batting well with Tharp & Honeyfield both suffering some collateral damage. After 18 overs Merstham were ahead of the run rate with 8 wickets in hand but Ali Brew bowled their No 3 for an excellent 84 with a gloriously slow off break. Honeyfield removed another well set batsmen and with the run rate climbing a glorious "coup de grace" was delivered by Oscar Jago Lewis, ages 11, who bowled 3 beautiful overs of accurate offspin, picking up 4 genuine wickets in the process. A chip off the old block was reaffirmed by a jug of Fosters being bought after the game (and a coke for himself).

The Mogs won by 34 runs in an excellent game of competitive cricket played in the best of spirits in front of a large crowd of Mogador & Merstham fans, both young & old alike.
