Whilst England were being taught a cricketing lesson by South Africa at The Oval, so the Mogs were similarly dealt with by Oxted & Limpsfield on a glorious Summer's afternoon. We lost the toss and bowled first with last minute replacement Quentin McKenna striking in his second over and James Brooker also bowling a tidy spell. The second wicket came via Mog new boy Stuart "Macca" Mccarthy who bowled some tidy darts before his hamstring twanged and he retired to the office. Hewitt bowled the Michael Schumacher lookalike for 77 and Honeyfield bowled an excellent spell at the end, but Oxted declared at 220 for 5, giving themselves a decent amount of time to bowl the Mogs out.
In short the Mogs top order totally capitulated with none of Furner, Lewis, Honeyfield, Hewitt, Tharp & Brown making more than 4 (!) and it was up to our lower order to bring a semblance of respectability with McKenna (37), Brooker (16*), Johnson (10) & Parker (10) plundering the spinners who replaced the 2 excellent "quicks" who had done all the damage, reducing us to 30-6. The match finished with 11 overs unused and beer was taken by the Mogs whilst our hosts had a game of football, obviously not feeling that they had used enough energy to inflict a crushing defeat. The match was played in excellent spirit and at least the sun shone but our batting, bowling & fielding all need to improve before the all day game against the Llamas on Thursday
