"Ollie Martin joins the VIP club ... but where has all the Tea money gone?"
On a warm and sunny day the Mogs visited the picturesque Coldharbour ground. The Mogs skipper for the day matt Lewis proceeded to lose the toss and the Mogs were inserted on a green track.
Peter Furner and Stuart Jackson opened the batting for the Mogs, Stuart hitting a few lusty blows before being caught in the gulley for 11. This bought Andy Tharp to the crease, who proceeded to hit the ball to all parts of the small ground, his 50 coming up in only 40 balls.
The hundred partnership soon followed, with Andy Tharp edging one behind soon after for 80 made off 57 balls. Darrell Abbott went cheaply, Richard Moss made a few before smiting one straight to cover.
Chris Brown scored a useful 20 odd before being bowled, Ollie Martin joined a special VIP club by hitting his first ball for a towering six, but was out three balls later. Peter Furner followed soon after for a well made 61 off 80 odd balls. The Lewis brothers added some very useful runs, each scoring 20 odd runs, which enabled the Mogs to reach their final score of 265.
The Coldharbour reply started very slowly due to some accurate bowling from Abbott and Lewis.J, the latter snaffling two wickets with some controlled swing bowling, and a slower ball that actually pitched, DA also seemed to be suffering from the altitude!!!
Peter Martin and Andy Tharp replaced them. AT bowled a tight spell from one end, picking up a couple of wickets, PM bowled his usual mix of wicket taking deliveries and sixes!!
With 20 overs remaining CCC were still some 140 runs short, however with 5 overs remaining only 40 odd was required, with an over from DA going for 18 and PM being shown little respect.
The skipper lived up to his nickname of "Toys" by having a heated debate with DA from 40 yards. The final 2 overs saw CCC requiring 22, but a maiden from DA and some poor running from the batsmen saw CCC finish some 14 runs short.
All in all an enjoyable game of cricket played in beautiful surroundings. Match secretary spent all the tea money on first round at the plough
Good effort Stuart £45.00
