<p>The final report for the year is brought to you by the Skipper, Rear Admiral Sir Alexander Humphrey Lysander Hewitt RICS PE NFA.</p>
<p>The Mogs met at Headley's pavilion at 12.00 prompt for the annual consumption of Black Velvet and plates of Ploughman's lunch, this year enhanced by finger-licking, hot roast chicken breasts. The Black Velvet was definitely having the desired affect on the players & Headley stalwart Miles was seen topping up all of the Mogs glasses, whilst fiendishly encouraging Headley players to hold back. Game on!</p>
<p>Hewitt won the toss & elected to bat first, but the Black Velvet was instantly seen in action as champagne Charlies Jackson (5) & Freeland (1) were both dismissed within the first three overs to shots of the bubbly rather than stout variety. Tharpey joined Furns at the crease and they steadied the ship before Tharpos fell for a pugnacious 24 including a couple of signature screamers over point. Hewitt joined the little master at the crease and these 2 put on 60 in contrasting style, with one of Hewitt's three imperious 6's clattering into the tea and coffee stall in the National Trust car park over the road. Headley skipper Phil Chapman had his revenge however as the sight of his girlfriend re-introducing herself to 3 former, Mog "beaus" provided the necessary increase in bowling speed. David Martin scored 17 before missing a straightish one, whilst Peter Furner (58) completed a stylish 50 to finish off what has been a slightly disappointing season by the master's standards on a high note. Honeyfield finished the season off just as he had started it at Brook with a barrage of skyscraping 6's (significantly reducing the queue at the tea stall) as he finished with an excellent 44* from 28 balls.</p>
<p>The Mogs declared at 217-6 off 40 overs and settled in to an outstanding savoury-themed tea containing hot Cornish pasties (a flashback here to the legendary tours of the mid 90's), sausage rolls, quiche, fruit and fresh sandwiches - a late truly but competitive entry for tea of the year. Fuelled by champagne and Cornish nostalgia, the Mogs took to the field in good spirits, so good that in fact that their first 11 overs donated 80 easy runs and a liberal scattering vintage toys in what is supposed to be a "carnival game" celebrating the end of the season (Skipper's note: Please remember for future years. This game above all others is about fun!!!). Briggsy's spell lasted 2 overs before he dramatically sledged himself out of the attack with his own brand of gruff vitriol. Jo's spell lasted 5 overs and contained some vintage wolf-style "roars", although he did manage to remove their opener Barney with a good off break, before taking exception to the opposition actually hitting his long hops over the legside boundary. Freeland meanwhile betrayed his surrepticious consumption of several cans of strong continental lager in addition to the Velvet-noir, and secured the covetted Yobador award for the day, taking violent exception to being hit for 6 back over his head by Mark Hopper (62) and throwing several rattles, his dummy and a small teddy bear out of the pram and well over the main road.</p>
<p>Hewitt & Lewis were brought on to calm things down (in both a social & runrate sense) & Lewis struck first with a quite brilliant run out from mid off which earned our first breakthrough and remove the dangerous Hopper. Hewitt was finding the pitch to his liking and despite the opposition needing just 100 from the last 20 overs with 8 wickets in hand, they fell 51 short as Hewitt (5-47) and Honeyfield (3-19) mopped up the tail, ably supported by some good catches in the field, the best of which being a steepler at long on by Furns (please re-read the last sentence for clarification purposes)</p>
<p>Honeyfield took the last wicket with the first ball of the last over and a great party followed in the pavilion as 60 or so Mogs & Headley members did everything they could to drink all of Headley's remaining beer stocks before the Winter.</p>
<p>13 wins in the season was a cracking effort and it has been a great pleasure skippering the side again. Will is organising a couple of Winter Warmers, so I look forward to seeing you in a cockroach-infested curry house before Christmas!</p>
