The Mogs enjoyed a famous victory against Reigate Priory at the "Venue of Legends" yesterday, securing The Major Cup in the process. We won the toss and elected to bowl first. Coxon struck twice courtesy of a caught behind by Parker and a sharp catch by Hewitt at silly cover. Irvine & Haughton put on 50 for the 3rd wicket, only for Lee to remove Irvine and Mendis during a fine spell. We lunched with the Priory at 100-3 and a splendid 2 course feast greeted us, along with 2 bottles of port generously donated by our excellent hosts. After lunch Tharp removed the Priory's middle order during another match altering spell with Magic Johnson snaring 3 catches. Honeyfield cleaned up the tail, depriving Haughton (92*) of what would have been an excellent 100.
The Mogs would admit that we did not have the strongest batting line up, whilst Priory had Saturday 1st XI, Alex Dempsey, amongst others, queuing up to have a go. They would have a torrid afternoon. Tharp & Lee opened the batting and despite a very fortunate 1st over for Lee (dropped twice and caught off a no ball), the openers batted beautifully in an excellent stand of 92. Tharp was especially aggressive and the speed with which they compiled their stand ensured that we were always above the run rate. Both fell within 2 runs of each other but Fairclough & Jonathan "The Butcher of S'Algar" Richards put on 70 for the 3rd wicket with the Butcher scoring a marvellous 50 in his first game for the Mogs for a good 10 years. Hewitt smashed a quickfire 25 and Honeyfield & Johnson calmly and stylishly scored the winning runs in front of a huge crowd. The Major Cup was raised, many pints were sunk and a curry party of 25 made up of players from both sides & Mog supporters meant that Friday was a good day for Mr Ahmed, proprietor of Golden Curry, as well as the mighty Mogador Wanderers.

CURRY SECRETARY'S REPORT - 23RD JULY 2010
Following several hours of cheerful post match libation as evening gathered at Reigate Priory's splendid ground, a party of 18 Mogs retired to The Golden Curry for further merriment as is our wont. In this repast we were delighted to be joined by 3 members of our excellent hosts for the day, namely Captain Hoad and two rising stalwarts of the Priory, Matthew Packham and Alex Mendis. Mr Ahmed, continuing an unbroken tradition of Mog curry eating at his establishment dating back to 1991, was very pleased to receive us, particularly because in the current recessionary environment his restaurant was completely empty although it was only 2200 hrs. on a Friday evening!
The Cobra and white wine were soon flowing and a mass of poppadums were consumed before the main course arrived. As is customary on these occasions Mogs Captain Hewitt invited his counterpart to join him in a rapid consumption of a pint of Mr Ahmed's finest lager. To his credit Captain Hoad accepted the challenge but youth is still his companion and he was not able to match the consummate drinking skills of his opposite number, honed over years of debauched ribaldry. A swift investigation of an adjacent doorstep was necessary but Hoady came back perked up and ready to continue the evening's festivities.
On a more serious note, as the match this day had been played for the Peter Martin Trophy, in memory of a legendary player, committee member and friend of both clubs the Curry Secretary greeted everyone on behalf of the Chairman MWCC, David Martin, and announced that it was the Chairman's wish that all the guests join him in a loving cup to remember his brother and also another dear friend of ours, Matthew Lewis, who was also absent from the table but not from our hearts. The Peter Martin trophy, brimming with Whiskey, was thus formally passed around the table and all the guests drank to the memory of these great Mogs.
The food itself was of the usual high standard and of particular note was Captain Hewitt's Lamb Phall which he kindly offered a spoonful of to Matthew Packham. Regrettably the curry had the kick of an enraged donkey and the young Priory spinner nearly required the intervention of a defibrillator, such were the spasms that seized him after this fiery mouthful. At this stage of the evening Captain Hoad returned the challenge from earlier and requested that Hewitt join him in the handless consumption of one of Golden Curry's spongy, chocolately e-number rich puddings. Hewitt got off to very bad start and was unable to prise the paper umbrella from the pudding, despite viciously shaking it with his teeth which was lifted into the air more like a great white shark trying to shake apart its hapless prey. At this point, overcome with his efforts and the sizeable volumes of hop based products already consumed, the Captain fell off his chair to the floor whereupon the masses, (including all the Golden Curry staff observing The Mog Games with much curiosity), roaring with laughter all delighted in witnessing the momentary death stare from his wife which gave us all hope that even as fully grown, nay even possibly middle aged, men we can still get scolded as small children. Meanwhile Captain Hoad, who somehow appeared able to completely dislocate his jaw like a Boa Constrictor swallowing a small antelope, had completely engulfed his pudding and the Captain's Challenges thus ended in an honourable draw.
This happy conclusion to the Games brought the evening to a close and the younger members of the party retired to local hostelries for further revelry whilst their elders retired to bed and Alka Seltzer after a thoroughly enjoyable day.
