Fixture Report

Mogador Wanderers vs Chipstead & Coulsdon  (29/08/2004)

Match Abandoned.

It had been 26 years since the last fixture between these sides which gave it a feel of a local derby.
Captains meet in the middle, came up with a 40 overs a side format, tossed the coin & the mogs were taking first strike.
Messrs Dewson & Turner stride out to a damp and green track ready for action.
Bowling was tight & a good contest unfolded, with runs and wickets coming at a steady rate.
At the halfway point (20overs) the score was 77-3, Dewson unfortunately run out, Turner gone for 23 for a dubious LBW umpiring decision from Tharpy.
Ritchie pointing out later that for an LBW appeal to be given out, the ball needs to hit the pads and the pads ONLY!!
Hewitt came to the crease in a rich vein of form, and continued this by smashing 60 off 37balls, with Tharpy at the other end also enjoying himself in a partnership of 71 in 8 overs. After the dismissal of Alex, Tharpy was left to continue the pace with a crumbling lower order that fell like a pack of cards. Mogs finished on 209-9 off 40 overs with Andy not out for a very good 60. Also just a brief mention that the mogs surpassed themselves in this innings by having 3 run outs. Chipstead teas were voted into the top 5 of the season.
Mogs wondered slowly out to field with the grey clouds sitting over the ground,
First over was delivered with pin point accuracy from Keith and we off and running, first scalp went to Keith clean bowling the fella. Mr Honeyfield bowls tight line from the other end & is rewarded eventually with a wicket. At the 15 over stage C&C are at 59-2 and that's when the heavens open a mad dash back to the pavilion.
Mogs went back out 15 minutes later only to get soaked again and the captains call it a day, leaving an extra hour drinking time without the missus's knowing.
Chiptead & Coulsdon were great hosts and we all tucked into the Carlsberg.
