Only the mother of all storms prevented the Mogs from inflicting what would surely have been a humiliating defeat on Reigate Priory in their cricket week. A strong Mogs XI arrived at the ground, where heavy drizzle prevented play until 11.45. Former county player Jason Roy opened the batting for the home team and was lucky to get away with a streaky 3 off Joe's first ball. He was not so lucky in the 4th over, as Leigh Padfield bowled him off the inside edge for 12. Our exuberant celebrations were justified - Jason averaged 450 against us over the last 4 years and removing him saved an awful lot of leather chasing. Leigh removed the Priory's no 3 Skitt for 3, courtesy of a good catch from Tharpy and Charlie removed Macdonald (8), plumb LBW leaving the Priory at 58-3 at lunch. The Mogs feasted on an excellent buffet and the introduction of spin twins on resumption, Richard "Simply the Best" Turner and Phil "The Power" Davies saw Reigate Priory collapse like an arthritic giraffe. Trigger took 3 wickets (3-33) via a long hop, a jaffa and a legside strangle whilst The Power took 2-21 via a magnificent stumping from Parker and a catch from Richard Brown. At 78 - 8 and 98-9 (Matt Packham run out 3, saving us all from seeing The Power running round the boundary naked) the Mogs harboured hopes of victory before tea but the sky got blacker and blacker and at 3.15 an Armageddon style storm hit Reigate and prevented any further play. We retired to the pavilion, where home captain Andy Hoad plied us with port and the evening finished at Reigate Tandoori as players & WAGS from both sides ensured the spirit of this Peter Martin Memorial match was extended.
