Despite a splendid lunch at the President's country cottage and glorious sunshine on the South Coast, the Mogs suffered their 2nd defeat of the season. Winning the toss, Hewitt elected to bat first but after the 6th over we were 17-3 after Furner (8) & Larke (1) were caught and Hewitt (6) was clean bowled. Fairclough (44) & "Profit of Doom" Tharp (15) posted a mini recovery with Fairclough in particular looking in good form before Andy missed a straight one and Fairclough was out LBW, fingered by train companion and temporary umpire Larke. Lewis M (4) & Abbott (8) also went cheaply and it was Richard Moss (42) who marshalled the tail superbly via significant partnerships with J Lewis (19) and Col Cuzza (12*), seeing the Mogs post 199 for 9 from our allotted 40 overs, bowled in the slowest imaginable time. Tea was taken at 5.35!
A good tea it was however and the Mogs started well, getting their opener & captain James out in Abbo's 2nd over, caught behind. Disgracefully the batsman failed to "walk" despite admitting to having hit the ball. Even his team mates were embarrassed and the Mogs Yobador twins Lewis M & Briggs were only able to control their vitriol after repeated pleas of sporting behaviour from Hewitt. Lewis J struck first with a long hop seeing Tharp taking a smart catch at midwicket by Tharp. Matt bowled a great spell (1-15)and with Briggs (1-35) also bowling a tight line the Mogs were able to put some pressure on the home team. Unfortunately we missed a couple of catches and possibly a couple of run outs too and despite Abbo and Tharpy picking up a wicket apiece, Rottingdene never had to score more than 4 an over and the winning runs were hit off the wicketless Hewitt with 3 balls to go.
It was a good match, played against a mostly decent bunch of lads.
