Mogador Wanderers vs Tadworth (17/05/2009)

Match Abandoned.

The 10 mogs travelled the short (for some) distance to their oldest adversaries Tadworth on a breezy and cool (replace with blowing a gale and flipping freezing) afternoon. The early morning downpour had abated long enough for Alex to lose the toss and get inserted by our hosts. The intrepid opening duo Peter Furner (Yoda) and Charles Lee (Cpt James T Kirk) were unable to live up to their monikas as they struggled to use the force or advance at light speed thanks to a tight opening spell form the Tadworth openers, who utilised the conditions very well. Cpt James T Kirk was the first to go, bowled by a straight one for 3. Returning Mog Phil Staverley joined the little master and had to deal with a pitch that was unpredictable at best, taking some blows on the arm, chest and head. Yoda was the next to go, cutting a wide on straight into the arms of point for a gritty 17. The skipper joined Phil and proceeded to play one of his better innings for the Mogs in deteriorating conditions. Alex was particularly brutal on anything short or over pitched, wisely looking for boundaries instead of running on what was becoming an ice rink. When Phil was dismissed for a dogged 22, Andy Tharp walked to the crease only to walk straight back as the umpires decided it was raining too hard and called for an early tea. The rain abated during the interval, although the clouds were still threatening, and the Mogs went out to continue thier innings hoping to score some quick runs and declare. This however was made more difficult as the rain returned, Tharpy was out for 1, Keith had to leave, and it was all too much for Hodgy who decided that the only victor was the rain and the game was abandoned. Many thanks to Tadworth who fielded in terrible conditions, to Hodgy who looked like a drowned rat when coming off the field and to the number of supporters who braved the weather and enjoyed a fabulous tea as always. The Mogs are now looking forward to Merstham and renewing old acquaintances.
