Stevens sees the mogs home in style!

13:50L call from Andy to Matt(who was still in transit to ground) I've done the toss & we're fielding in 8 minutes. Captain's armband is wrapped around Andy's right bicep for the day.
Mr. P Rice opens up down the hill & was hitting the right areas with some good pace. 3rd over he cleans up Mr. Callcut with stumps all over the straza. Joe partnered Pete in the opening spell and had to try to keep there exuberant batsmen tied up which proved tricky with a short boundary on the leg side. 5th over of the day bought big rewards with Mr. Jones taking a good catch at throat level quickly followed by Tharp taking one off his boot straps at 2nd slip. With Newdigate tottering at 48-3 a slow partnership of 18 keep them in the game until Pete picked up his 4th rapidly followed by his 5th. Mr. Rice celebrated more that he could take a breather from bowling than taking a Michelle. Lewis M & Briggs K were the first change bowlers followed up tidily with 10 over's only going for 20runs before Lewis finally bowled a straight one.
Mr. Abbott replaced Keith down the hill in full grunt mode and picked up 2 good wickets. Newdigate had a last man stand of 45 to finish on a respectable 175ao in 37 over's. Nice work skipper for opening up the match!
Tea was up there in the top 5 with sausage rolls, fresh and meaty sandwiches rounded off with plenty of cake.
Charlie Lee & our hopefully new member Ollie Jago opened up for mogs and had to dig in against some very good tight bowling. Eventually one got through and Mogs were 18-1 off 10ov. In strolled man of the match Mr. D Stevens, took middle and settled in with a 4 second ball.
David ably supported by Charlie pushed mogs along to 54-2 before Charlie eventually succumbed and was out for a very gritty 22. Mr. D Abbott next man in was totally de flattered to see the quickies come off & the slows come on! But never mind mogs reached the last 20 with 104 runs required and 7 wkts in hand.
Abbott went then Tharp came and went when the spin bowler turned one (how dare he). Match situation was simple 86-4 15overs remaining 90 needed, Dave & Joseph put together an essential partnership of 71 in ten over's until Joe was out with the score on 157-5.Dave Stevens was going great guns and had passed his fifty with style. Matt joins him in the middle to be informed no more singles! Unfortunately Matt can't retain too much for too long and nearly ran out both of them in the next 2 overs. To Matt's disappointment they bought back there opener & flayed meaninglessly for an over with impressive stats of missing them all (thank god he couldn't bowl straight). So to the Penultimate over, 4 required Dave had quickly realized there was no sense trusting the swinging ginger with facing the last over, so last ball of the over he picked it up graciously off middle and leg & dumped it over long on for 6, thank the Lord for that. Dave walked off with a fantastic 73no too great applause from team and groupies.
All mogs were fined by Mr. Brown as normal, good game, good fun oppo & good result
