Fixture Report

Mogador Wanderers vs Reigate Priory (25/07/2008)

Match Drawn.
Final Scores:
Reigate Priory 237 for 7.
MWCC - 156 for 9.

The Mogs were again invited to take part in Reigate Priory's cricket week and again we delighted the hosts by preventing the llamas from beating us, whilst contributing to their profits behinf the bar. On a warm, muggy afternoon the Mogs won the toss and inserted Reigate, thinking that it was only going to get hotter as the day went on and knowing that jamie had to leave at 5pm in order to play in a semi final of a Surrey Twenty20 competition. Freeland had not bowled all year but still delivered a testing 5 over spell which saw the llamas opener dismissed courtesy of a tumbling catch from poacher turned gamekeeper Charlie Lee. The Priory lost further wickets bvefore lunch with both Briggsy Snr & Charlie Lee snaring a wicket & we feasted on an excellent lunch with the Mogs very much in the game. Hewitt took 3 quick wickets after lunch to leave the Priory reeling at 153 for 6 but they batted the whole way down and despite "Tina" Turner bringing Mrs Miggins to the party, snaring 2 wickets with his leggies, the Priory declared on 237 for 7, giving us 45 overs to get the runs.

Unfortunately the Mogs batting underperformed with only Turner (32), Tharp (36) & Hewitt (22) getting going with nearly every batsmen throwing away his wicket. We were nine down with 11 overs to go and the young Priory team were already celebrating their first win of the week despite our senior batsmen Briggs & Parker still at the wicket. Despite their best efforts our lads could not be parted and slowly the Llama smiles were replaced by weary grimaces as, well before the finish, they knew they were not going to get the last wicket. Sure as hell, Briggsy & Wilko held out for a famous draw and we retired to the pavilion for a well earned drink.
