Mogador Wanderers vs Ewhurst (16/09/2007)

MWCC Won by 162 runs.
Final Scores:
Ewhurst 139 all ou6.
MWCC - 301 for 5

On a bright Autumn day, The Mogs turned up at Ewhurst's pretty ground, eager to add to the season's win column. Captain Hewitt called correctly and on agreeing to a 40 over game with Ewhurst' skipper, elected to bat first. Furner & Tharp opened the batting and it was the little master who started the brighter, uncharacteristically finding the boundary 3 times in his first 12 balls received. Tharpey joined the fun with a trade mark 6 over cover and our openers put on 70 before Furn's went for 31 and Andy for 46. Honeyfield and Hewitt came in at 3 & 4 respectively and both were soon in their stride as the run rate started to spiral upwards. Jimmy went for 27 and Freeland joined Hewitt in a run laced partnership worth 120 in just 14 overs. Both players cleared the boundary on a number of occasions and although Freeland departed shortly after his excellent 55, Hewitt went to score a belligerent 115 with 7 x 6's and 9 x 4's. Moss and Lewis finished our innings on 301 for 5, with 118 runs coming off the last 10 overs and the Mogs enjoyed a ploughman's tea in good spirits, knowing that their total was always going to be good enough.

The weather posed a more credible threat, with the bright sunshine replaced by grey clouds and very light drizzle and with us only starting Ewhurst's innings at 5pm, we were going to be finishing in the dark unless we could bowl the opposition out. Briggs got us off to a great start, taking a magnificent, diving, one-handed catch off his own bowling to get rid of their dangerous opener. Pilau had less luck from the other end, regularly beating the bat but never quite finding the stumps or an edge. Honeyfield inherited Peter's poor luck with Hewitt, Freeland and Parker all spilling chances that on another day would have been held. Replacing Briggs was Joseph Lewis and he returned excellent figures of 8-0-29-5 as he tore the heart out of Ewhurst's middle order. This was the third match running that Joe has bowled line and length and he is reaping the rewards accordingly. Brother Matthew and Hewitt took the last 4 wickets as the Mogs bowled Ewurst out for 139 in 29.4 overs and we retired to the pavilion for beer, happy to have secured a solid win.
