On a roasting hot day, Hewitt felt the pressure iof calling correctly from the moment he woke up, but to everyone's surprise, he called correctly and elected to bat. Furner & jackson opened the batting but were unable to get out of 2nd gear despite the lightmning fast outfield and friendly bowling. Jackson went for 7 and Furner for 24, before Hewitt (66) & Tharp (25) upped the tempo with a succession of attacking strokes including several big sixes. As the declaration beckoned it was Honeyfield & Joseph Lewis who took the Mogs to a competitive target of 221-7.
On reaching the pavilion, we knew it was going to be a good tea as Matthew & Briggsy were cutting the sandwiches and we were not let down with a variety of fresh sandwiches, cake & hot tea.
The tea makers were rewarded for their teatime industry with a chance to make inroads into the reigate Pilgrims batting, but it was Honeyfield who struck first with his first ball finding the edge, with William doing the rest. Joseph had a go but could not quite master the slope and it was not until Hewitt camne on to bowl that the Mogs scented victory. Like Honeyfield he struck first ball and managed a further 5 wickets in a 12 over spell that reaped 6-41. The Pilfrims tail wagged but a suicidal run in the 3rd last over saw their No 11 run out and we all decamped to the pub for lots of drink....
